Business Wardrobe Capsule Case Study: Beyond Bottleshop Founder

Client Overview

Client: Amanda O.

Role: Founder, Beyond Bottleshop (Springfield, OH)

Project Type: Business wardrobe capsule + capsule styling support

Budget: ~$750 clothing budget (services separate)

Timeline: Winter season, with a plan to build seasonally

Amanda is a business owner who needed a polished, flexible business wardrobe capsule that supported professional meetings, social events, and day-to-day work—without requiring daily decision fatigue or a full closet overhaul.

She wanted color, structure, and ease, while staying true to her body type, height, and preference for natural fabrics.

The Challenge

Amanda came to me with a few clear goals—and a few frustrations:

  • She wanted a business wardrobe capsule that worked for real life, not a corporate uniform

  • She loved deep, rich autumn colors but struggled to wear them cohesively

  • She needed silhouettes that flattered her proportions without feeling restrictive

  • She wanted guidance without pressure—pieces she could build on season after season

  • She had a tight, realistic budget and wanted help finding quality pieces within it

  • She also had existing items she liked (including new jeans and skirts) and wanted those integrated rather than replaced.

The Strategy: A Customized Business Wardrobe Capsule

Instead of forcing a one-size-fits-all capsule, I built a custom business wardrobe capsule strategy around Amanda’s lifestyle:

1. Color-First Planning

We anchored everything in her Deep Autumn palette—rich greens, burgundy, warm browns, deep purples—avoiding stark white and pastels that didn’t serve her coloring.

2. Proportion & Silhouette Strategy

Key guidelines:

  • Open necklines (V, wrap, square, boat)

  • High-rise bottoms to support the rule of thirds

  • Skirts with movement (A-line, pleated)

  • Cropped or belted layers to define shape without bulk

3. Fewer Pieces, More Outfits

Rather than “more clothes,” we focused on:

  • Interchangeable tops and bottoms

  • Layers that worked across professional and casual settings

  • Neutral-adjacent colors that still felt vibrant

4. Budget-Smart Shopping

I sourced pieces primarily from:

  • Quince (natural fabrics, strong value)

  • Banana Republic

  • and Gap

  • We prioritized quality where it mattered (blazers, knitwear) and stayed flexible on trend-driven items.

The Process

Amanda’s project moved through a clear, collaborative flow:

  • Style intake + measurements + Pinterest inspiration

  • Moodboard development to align on direction

  • Capsule draft with linked, shoppable pieces

  • Multiple rounds of feedback and refinement

  • Budget recalibration as priorities shifted

  • Final capsule with a clear plan for future seasonal expansion

Throughout the process, Amanda was encouraged to test pieces in real life, return what didn’t work, and only invest in what truly supported her wardrobe goals.

The Result

Amanda walked away with:

  • A cohesive business wardrobe capsule she could actually wear

  • Clear outfit formulas instead of one-off looks

  • Confidence mixing professional and casual pieces

  • A roadmap to build her wardrobe over time, not all at once

She now has:

  • Multiple professional outfits for meetings and events

  • Casual-polished looks for day-to-day business life

  • A strong color story that makes getting dressed easier

Lilian was great to work with! She crafted my capsule wardrobe beautifully using my style likes, plus ideal colors and body-type fits. She took all my feedback gladly and made pivots readily until we had a finished product I was happy to pursue. She did the work of finding the clothes within my budget and made it so easy to purchase and put it all together. I will work with her again for seasonal changes!
